When re-downloading the track, iTunes does not exchange the existing track information of the user, which is correct as such. However, for numerous tracks, information pieces such a disc number, release year etc. are missing. This information can now be easily downloaded, respectively corrected using the matchTag application. When matching tracks with iTunes Match, iTunes identifies each and every track and assigns a unique ID to the particular track, which is identical to the iTunes Store Track ID. This ID can be sent to Apple’s iTunes Store API and in turn receives all the necessary track information as response.
