Before trying to fix your files, pcapfix checks for an intact global header, which it repairs, if there are any corrupted bytes. If there's no global header, the application adds a generated one at the beginning of the file. The seconds step consists in truing to find pcap packet headers included inside the file, under the global header. This will check the correctitude of the values and repair packets if there is something wrong. Fixing the pcapng file is similar. The application goes through all packet headers, checking for a mandatory section header and interface description block, creating them if there are some missing.
