SGIFormat is a free and open source Photoshop plug-in that reads and writes SGI (Irix) RGB image files, 8 or 16 bits/channel, in RLE or uncompressed formats. While Photoshop "Goodies" include this format, this plugin has fewer bugs, is faster, and works with all versions of Photoshop, on all platforms. It is robust in the face of damaged input files, and will usually recover an image despite corruption in RLE tables, or image data. Header corruption may prevent opening, however.
